TOPLINE: Today President Biden will deliver his first address to a joint session of Congress as he approaches his first 100 days in office. Unfortunately, President Biden has spent nearly all of his first three months in office prioritizing the radical Left’s socialist wish list instead of working with Republicans to deliver bipartisan results for the American people, as he promised in his campaign.
Biden Cancels Keystone XL, Killing Thousands Of Jobs
On his first day as President, Joe Biden chose left-wing activists over thousands of American workers by revoking an essential permit for the Keystone XL pipeline.
This decision killed thousands of good-paying energy jobs and weakened American energy security, forcing us to rely on dirtier imported crude oil from unreliable OPEC countries.
The American energy industry creates jobs, lowers the cost of gas and electricity for hard-working families, and advances American interests on the world stage.
With the stroke of a pen, President Biden eliminated thousands of energy jobs here in the United States and shipped them overseas to Middle Eastern countries and adversaries like Russia, which emit carbon at much higher rates than us.
Energy consultant David Blackmon wrote in Forbes that if constructed, Keystone XL would be the “safest and most environmentally responsible interstate pipeline ever constructed in the United States.”
Blackmon also noted that after former President Obama refused to endorse Keystone XL in 2015, the transportation of Canadian crude into America by rail increased by 192 percent. We can expect that number to continue to increase because of President Biden’s short-sighted policies.
Biden and Pelosi’s San Francisco Bailout
President Biden signed a $1.9 trillion package into law where less than nine percent of Democrats’ legislation went to public health and combatting COVID-19.
This package contained numerous provisions unrelated to COVID that will keep schools closed, pay people not to work, and bail out blue states.
Why should the American people pick up the tab for poorly-managed cities, like San Francisco, where community leaders spent up to $150 million of state funds to help buy alcohol and cannabis for the local homeless population?
Under Democrats’ spending bill, taxpayers from across the country will have to pay for the terrible decision-making of San Francisco.
Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer rejected all Republican efforts to advance bipartisan solutions, like safely reopening schools and speeding up vaccine distribution, that is targeted, temporary, and tied to COVID relief.
Reminder: The $1.9 Trillion Package:
- Authorizes approximately $130 billion to schools without any guarantee that schools provide the option of in-person instruction for America’s school children.
- According to CBO, 95 percent of the money for schools won’t be spent until after 2021 – blocking kids from returning to school.
- Nearly all of the $68 billion obligated to K-12 schools remains available from previous relief packages to support reopening schools and could be utilized immediately.
- Includes the establishment and funding of the “Emergency Federal Employee Leave Fund,” which allows certain federal bureaucrats up to 15 weeks of paid leave, up to $1,400 a week, for various reasons, including if their child has the option or is required to participate in virtual learning.
- Less than nine percent of the $1.9 trillion plan goes to combatting COVID-19 through public health spending such as national vaccination programs, tracking, and more testing.
- Multiple pro-life concerns in the package:
- Fails to include Hyde protections to prevent taxpayer dollars from paying for abortions.
- Requires taxpayers to subsidize health plans that potentially cover elective abortions.
- Changes PPP affiliation rules for non-profits to allow Planned Parenthood to receive funding.
- Codifies numerous partisan priorities, including duplicative rental assistance to funnel money toward non-COVID purposes and restarts the ineffective Obama-era State Small Business Credit Initiative.
- Includes a $350 billion bailout for blue states.
- Includes $300 a week federal unemployment through September.
- Despite projections for economic growth, the legislation provides the third round of stimulus checks, which will include households that have experienced little or no financial loss during the pandemic.
- Illegal immigrants would be eligible for some benefits included in the package.
- Expands expensive and ineffective health coverage policies that further disincentive work.
Biden’s Self-Made Crisis at the Southern Border
Through promises of amnesty and open borders, the Biden Administration has created an out-of-control surge of illegal immigrants and drugs along the U.S.-Mexico border. According to Customs and Border Protection, there has been more than a 400 percent increase in the number of migrants apprehended compared to March 2020, and there has been a 233 percent increase in fentanyl seizures at the border.
President Biden refuses to take responsibility for his actions, and Vice President Harris, who has been tasked with handling this crisis, has yet to visit the U.S.-Mexico border.
After taking office, President Biden terminated the Migrant Protection Protocols enacted by President Trump, which required asylum seekers to wait for their hearings in border facilities in Mexico rather than being released inside the country.
Biden also axed the asylum agreements Trump negotiated with Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras, requiring asylum seekers to remain in the first safe country they enter — the prevailing standard for asylum seekers in the European Union and Canada.
Biden has replaced these policies with the Obama-era process of “catch and release,” where illegal aliens claiming asylum are detained, processed, and released inside the United States as they await their hearing — which usually takes years. After being released, these COVID-positive migrants can potentially spread the virus to those they come into contact with — putting numerous lives at risk.
Additionally, the Biden Administration is not keeping migrants six feet apart in detention facilities and does not test them for COVID before they are transported to another detention center, violating its own guidance for American citizens.
Dr. Anthony Fauci testified, under oath, that President Biden’s housing of migrants in overcrowded facilities violates CDC guidance regarding social distancing and mask wearing.
Biden Refuses to Reopen Schools, Rest of the Country
For months, the Biden Administration has resisted commonsense efforts to reopen classrooms safely. The White House has made excuse after excuse, despite having tens of billions of dollars in funding from Congress to send children back to the school.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) revised its physical distancing guidelines for children in schools to recommend that most students maintain three feet of distance between students instead of trying to keep at least six feet apart.
Despite scientific studies and evidence, Randi Weingarten, the president of the American Federation of Teachers, the second-largest teachers union in America, questioned the CDC’s decision to revise social distancing guidelines in classrooms from six feet to three feet.
Once again, after more than a year of school closures, we are seeing union bosses stand in the way of science and argue against students resuming in-person learning.
The CDC has made it clear that schools can safely reopen for in-person learning, yet the Biden Administration has broken its promises to parents and has instead sided with radical teachers unions.
By ignoring the science and keeping kids out of school, the Biden Administration is unnecessarily causing American children to fall behind and suffer mental health consequences.
Additionally, key community gathering spots like churches, restaurants, bars, gyms, hair salons, movie theaters, and clothing stores have either closed their doors forever or struggling to keep the lights on because of President Biden’s extreme efforts to keep the United States locked down.
Before he became President, Joe Biden ran on unifying our country but he is sadly steering our nation in the wrong direction. President Biden is preventing us from returning to normal and is putting misguided leftist policies over our nation’s best interests.
Despite Pledging Transparency, Biden Did Not Hold A Press Conference During His First 64 Days in Office
It took President Biden 64 days to hold his first solo press conference as Commander-in-Chief — longer than the previous two Presidents combined and marking the first President in at least 100 years to not have a press conference in the first 50 days of his term.
Transparency was a central theme of Biden’s campaign, yet when it comes to governing, President Biden prefers to remain hidden from the cameras despite multiple crises America currently faces.
Biden Ignores Operation Warp Speed
During his first televised address to the nation, President Biden told the American people that his goal was to administer 200 million COVID-19 vaccine shots in his first 100 days in office.
Missing from President Biden’s remarks was any mention of the Trump Administration’s Operation Warp Speed program, which worked with the private sector to develop vaccines and distribute them as soon as possible.
Because of President Trump’s leadership creating the highly-successful Operation Warp Speed, the Biden Administration inherited contracts for hundreds of millions of doses for two approved vaccines and two that were in the final stage of clinical trials.
When President Biden took office, the United States was already on the path to administer 100 million doses in 100 days, showing that his vaccine distribution plan was President Trump’s plan.
While White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain falsely claimed a vaccine plan “did not really exist,” the truth is President Trump laid the groundwork for today’s achievement. President Biden ought to finally acknowledge the critical role President Trump played in creating Operation Warp Speed.
Biden Broke His Promise to Protect Middle-Class Families and American Workers
When he ran for President, Joe Biden promised that his agenda would not harm middle-class families and American workers. He’s breaking that promise to pay for the Democrats’ huge spending package.
The Biden Administration is seeking to raise taxes on businesses by more than $2 trillion, including increasing the corporate tax rate in America from 21 percent to 28 percent. This would make the U.S. corporate tax rate higher than communist China’s, which currently sits at 25 percent.
Under Biden’s tax plan, it would be less expensive for companies to do business in China than to stay on American soil. Why would President Biden want to encourage U.S. companies to move to China?
In addition to simply taking their business elsewhere, by raising taxes, companies will lay off workers and reduce wages to make up the revenue loss.
As Democrats push their big-government, socialist agenda, they are ignoring that the American worker and economy will have to pay the highest price.
