WASHINGTON, D.C.— Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) released the following statement upon passage of H.R. 3401, House Democrats’ partisan border supplemental bill:

“Over the past weeks I repeatedly urged Democrat leadership to bring forward a bipartisan bill to address the humanitarian crisis at the border. With today’s vote, Democrats once again prove incapable of good governance. Rather than addressing the crisis head-on, Democrats folded to the demands of radical open-border progressives. Under a veto threat from the White House, this legislation simply wastes our valuable time as the situation at the border deteriorates. I hope, with the Democrats’ stunt out of the way, we can finally work with the Senate and get down to the business of passing a border supplemental bill that President Trump can sign. Americans and immigrants on our southern border have both suffered enough. We must provide relief to overworked border personnel and reform to the immigration process so we can address the root causes of this humanitarian crisis.”
