WASHINGTON, D.C.—House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) released the following statement regarding three new drive-through COVID-19 “Community-Based Testing Sites” made available by the Trump Administration’s Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in the Greater New Orleans area. These sites will be run under a federal-state-local partnership and will substantially increase the number of tests available in the New Orleans region. The sites will initially focus on testing health care workers and first responders.
“After working closely with the Trump Administration and our state and local leaders, I’m glad to see that the New Orleans region will be able to more aggressively test for the Coronavirus. These drive-through sites will provide a quicker and safer way for individuals to get tested, helping prevent the spread of Coronavirus in our communities. I will continue working with the Trump Administration and our state and local governments, as well as health care professionals to do all that we can to tackle and suppress the spread of this virus.”
The testing sites are being offered through a pilot program with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The testing sites will initially focus on providing COVID-19 tests to health care facility workers and first responders who are symptomatic.
