WASHINGTON, D.C. — Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) released the following statement upon Rep. Kevin Brady’s announcement that he will be retiring at the end of this Congress:

“Kevin Brady has served Texas’ 8th district and our nation with honor, humility, and the highest integrity. Kevin and I have lived together as roommates in Washington since I was first elected to the House of Representatives, and I have seen firsthand his unquestionable character, and can attest that Kevin is the ideal example of a public servant. For decades, Kevin has tirelessly advocated for his constituents inside and outside the halls of Congress and has effectively drawn from his time in the Texas State House to serve as an impactful legislator. In 2017, as Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, Kevin was instrumental in authoring and passing the historic Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, the first major overhaul of our nation’s tax code in over 30 years. This historic legislation bolstered America’s middle class with millions of new jobs and higher wages, strengthened the U.S. economy, and made the United States more competitive on a global level. I will miss Kevin’s leadership and friendship, as well as his jovial spirit in Washington, and wish him and his wonderful family all the best in the next chapter of his accomplished career.”
