WASHINGTON, D.C.— Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) released the following statement upon Rep. Susan Brooks’ announcement that she will be retiring at the end of this Congress:

“Susan has served Indiana’s 5th district and our nation with poise, principle, and effectiveness. I deeply value our personal friendship and will miss her leadership and presence in Washington. All of us feel incredibly thankful for Susan’s experience over the past seven years. Susan has made a distinguished career of fighting for the American people, both as the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana and as a member of the United States Congress. She has been a valued member of our Deputy Whip Team and was instrumental in shepherding conservative priorities into law, including her leadership on critical legislation to combat human trafficking and prepare our nation for natural disasters and pandemics. I am confident that whatever lies ahead for Susan, it will be in service to God, family, and country. Her husband, David, deserves much gratitude for his devotion and support throughout her career in public service, and I wish Susan and her family nothing but the best.”
