Pandemic Response Report is a weekly newsletter about America’s response to the coronavirus pandemic from Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis (SSOCC) Republicans.

What’s Important  NIH Continues to Award Grants & Contracts to EcoHealth Alliance: While the National Institutes of Health (NIH) finally cut funding to the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) for conducting dangerous research on novel bat coronaviruses, it continues to award EcoHealth Alliance taxpayer-funded grants and contracts despite being found to have been out of compliance with the terms of their grant.  ‘Reading, math scores fell sharply during pandemic, data show’: Last week, it was revealed that reading scores saw their largest decrease in 30 years, while math scores had their first decrease in the history of the testing regimen behind the study, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. Biden Administration Ignores the Science & Forces Children to Wear Masks: Head Start preschools and child care centers for low-income families will keep in place mandatory masking for teachers and children as young as two-years-old. Crisis Corner‘Reading, math scores fell sharply during pandemic, data show’: Last week, it was revealed that reading scores saw their largest decrease in 30 years, while math scores had their first decrease in the history of the testing regimen behind the study, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. The dramatic setbacks, which erased two decades of progress in American test scores, are a result of school closures and remote learning. From early on, Subcommittee Republicans raised concerns about the impact of school closures on students across the country and fought to keep schools open. Biden BlundersBiden Administration Ignores the Science & Forces Children to Wear Masks: Head Start preschools and child care centers for low-income families will keep in place mandatory masking for teachers and children as young as two-years-old. Head Start schools are a resource for some of the nation’s poorest pre-K students and mandatory masking. Studies have shown masking is harming children’s speech and emotional development. NIH Continues to Award Taxpayer-Funded Grants to EcoHealth Alliance: The NIH is continuing to award EcoHealth Alliance taxpayer-funded grants and contracts despite being found to have been out of compliance with the terms of their grant. EcoHealth Alliance, an NIH grantee, awarded taxpayer funds to the WIV in China to study bat coronaviruses, and may have conducted research that led to the pandemic. The Biden Administration and Democrats continue to turn a blind eye to EcoHealth’s unethical behavior. Republicans will continue to conduct oversight and will work to hold bad actors accountable. Democrat HypocrisyBiden Administration Colluded with Teachers Union to Keep Schools Closed and Now Blames Trump for Closures: Recently, the White House press secretary placed blame on the Trump Administration and Republicans for the drastic decline in students’ reading and math scores as a result of school closures.  This is laughably false as it is well documented that Biden’s CDC allowed the American Federation of Teachers to rewrite official guidance that effectively kept schools shuttered.  SSOCC UpdateDemocrats Refuse to Investigate Biden’s Failed COVID Response: House Republican Whip and Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis Ranking Member Steve Scalise (R-La.) recently blasted Democrats’ latest coronavirus report that fails to investigate the Biden Administration’s botched pandemic response. Democrats continue to try covering up President Biden’s failed pandemic response, as well as his political interference with science to allow more shutdowns. The Biden Administration allowed a radical teachers union to rewrite scientific guidance so they could make it easier to shut down schools. They issued confusing guidance at the CDC, bypassed the FDA’s vaccine approval process for boosters, and failed to conduct a robust investigation into the origin of COVID. These failures have crushed learning opportunities for millions of children, undermined Americans’ trust in our institutions, and placed Americans at risk for future pandemics. When Republicans are running the House next year, we will hold the Biden Administration accountable and advance solutions to prevent future government abuse and mismanagement. What They’re SayingRandi Weingarten Flunks the Pandemic (WSJ Opinion)American Federation of Teachers chief Randi Weingarten, who pushed shutdowns as long as she possibly could before parents revolted, tried to forget this ever happened with her statement on Twitter: ‘Thankfully after two years of disruption from a pandemic that killed more than 1 mil Americans, schools are already working on helping kids recover and thrive. This is a year to accelerate learning by rebuilding relationships, focusing on the basics.’ But she and her union were the chief disrupters. America’s teachers unions demanded that schools be kept shut even as they remained open in Europe. At the same time unions used the pandemic to extort money from Congress. Schools received some $190 billion in federal Covid relief to safely reopen and address learning losses, but schools stayed closed and much of the money still hasn’t been spent. After the first months of Covid uncertainty, the school shutdowns had nothing to do with safety. You flunked the pandemic, Randi, and set back America’s children for years.” Rep. Comer: Fauci owes Americans answers about COVID-19 origin, and House GOP is determined to get them(Fox News Opinion)This week Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and President Joe Biden’s chief medical advisor, announced he will be retiring at the end of the year. While Fauci’s federal career is coming to an end, congressional oversight of his efforts to possibly conceal the origins of COVID-19 is just getting started. The American people have many questions for Fauci, and we are determined to get answers. For the past two years, Republicans on the House Oversight and Reform Committee have called for Fauci to testify before the committee and provide documents and information related to our investigation into COVID-19 origination. However, Democrats have shielded Fauci from any meaningful congressional oversight and have refused to invite him to appear before the committee.  The origin of COVID-19 — a virus with a death toll surpassing 1 million Americans and 6 million globally — is a question that must be answered. Discovering the origin is vital to providing accountability and protecting Americans in the future.” Member MentionsSelect Subcommittee Republicans demand accountability for Democrats’ collusion with the Union Bosses to keep schools shuttered.
